Starting a Business during the Credit Crunch

Starting a new business during a credit crunch can be quite difficult. If you can’t get a loan to cover all of your start-up costs, what can you do? Well, there are a few ways of cutting corners right at the beginning that can save you money or allow you to start your own business even if you can’t get a loan in the amount you’d like.

One of the biggest ways of saving money is to run your business out of your home. If this is an option (with some businesses, it may not be), you won’t have to go through the trouble and expense of finding and paying for office space. You can also use your own office equipment (desk, chair, etc.) and maybe even use your own computer. This will also save you money on utilities. You may even be able to count some of these expenses as business expenses and later reimburse yourself for part of your costs like electricity and internet costs.

Another way to save some money is to pay your employees as contract workers. This means you won’t have to pay benefits and such, but there are some very strict guidelines you do have to follow.
